Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Empower Underrepresented Students to Achieve Their Dreams

“I had to be worried about how I presented myself and how people perceived me. For example, I had to think about whether I had short hair or long hair for my interview, if I should use different pronouns in my email signature. We all have characteristics and values that might differ from what we can consider as mainstream, but what's really important is all of us are responsible for the community we build.” Julia Bagshaw, third-year veterinary student

At WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, diversity is a priority.

Veterinary medicine is a profession lacking diversity. Our mission is to contribute to a field representative of all by creating and sustaining equitable opportunities through holistic practices and policies for all members of our college, students, staff, faculty, and alums.

We work together by fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to bolster professions of human health, interdisciplinary biomedical research, veterinary medicine, and all adjacent practices. Through our evolving education, innovations, and collaborations, we create leaders who understand the unique needs of a community and incorporate that knowledge to advance the health and welfare of animals and humans.

We’re committed to promoting, supporting, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in veterinary medicine. Your gift to the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund for the Advancement of Veterinary Medicine will allow us to create a more equitable profession by providing greater access to diverse communities and expanding our inclusionary resources.

“As first-generation students, we are motivated. We want to be here. We want to be a part of the university, it’s just that one barrier where we don’t know where to start. One of the programs that brought me was aimed at first-year students. It really helped me out knowing there were others like me.” – Angel Delgado, microbiology
