Herbert M. Nakata Microbiology Fund
This fund was established in 1993 by the Department of Microbiology to honor Professor Emeritus Herbert M. Nakata who served as chair of the microbiology department for 24 years. Under his leadership, the department thrived both academically and fiscally.
Elizabeth R. Hall Scholarship
The Elizabeth Hall Scholarship was established to honor Dr. Elizabeth Hall (1914-2001), a member of the WSU faculty from 1944 to 1976* [*references 32 years]. A distinguished researcher and instructor, Dr. Hall received the Carski Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award from the American Society of Microbiology in 1976.
Students Targeted toward Advanced Research Studies (STARS)

STARS is an elite program focused on providing the best students an opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Genetics and Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Neuroscience in as little as three years, and earn their Doctor of Philosophy Degree in as little as 7 years after leaving high school.
