International Programs:
All WSU students – from Punjab to Pullman and anywhere around the world – will graduate into a globally connected economy. Our programs promote the intercultural communication skills Cougars will need to succeed in today’s workplaces. Learn more about the Office of International Programs projects and priorities below.
Refugee and Immigrant Support Fund
Beyond dynamically changing one displaced student’s life, funding a refugee to enroll at WSU will create a widespread impact on every student they interact with.
This student-led effort continues the WSU legacy of helping disadvantaged students pursue higher education. WSU is proud to be selected by the Welcome Corps on Campus program to host a student forced from home and currently living in a refugee camp. We offer wrap-around services, including peer mentors, to help the newcomer be successful, and in turn, peer mentors get a deep intercultural experience without leaving their own campus.
To host a student, it is critical we have sufficient scholarship funding for their first year, after which they are eligible to work and apply for financial aid. Your gift to the Refugee and Immigrant Support Fund will help create a life-changing experience for a young person who will also enrich our WSU community and help domestic students understand the world better.
Student Aid
Cougs really do help Cougs, and this is the chance to express it.
Sometimes, life gets in the way of school. A sudden sickness, unexpected expense, war, natural disaster, or pandemic at home can threaten the journey to graduation. International students can only work up to 20 hours and can’t access Federal aid while in school. We’ve been here to help international students through tough times and we want to continue to be here. You can help us ensure this aid is always available.
Your gift to the International Programs Student Aid Fund will allow us to help our students when they need that little extra to overcome their obstacles, earn their degrees, and proudly claim their places as Cougs, wherever life leads them.
WSU ECAR
WSU is a wellspring of innovation and that extends to the region it serves, linking the public sphere with students.
Since forming last fall, WSU’s ECAR (Every Campus a Refuge) chapter has helped resettle two young Afghan families in Pullman. Through the program, WSU student volunteers can earn credit for working with ECAR on the resettlement process and acclimating refugees to the community and U.S. routines until they are self-sufficient.
By donating to the International Opportunity Fund, you will give student volunteers the opportunity to greatly impact a refugee family and add immeasurable expertise and impact to students’ future career knowledge.
Education Abroad
The workforce demands a breadth of global knowledge that education abroad can uniquely prepare students for.
In today’s international marketplace, organizations are looking for employees who understand how to work beyond borders. Employers increasingly expect candidates to work with widely diverse people from different cultures with different ideas, experiences, values, and viewpoints. Students return home changed from their experiences abroad and are eager to share that perspective in the working world.
Your gift to the Aaron Iverson Education Abroad Fund will support a scholarship fund for students who have the drive – but not necessarily all the means – to learn for the future.
