Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience

What if we could enhance the quality of life of those with neurodegenerative diseases?

The Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience educates and supports individuals and caregivers from all walks of life who are encountering ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases. From investments in new research to support groups to the latest in-home technology, the institute works in close partnership with WSU researchers, clinical practitioners, start-up companies, and educators to enhance the quality of life of those navigating these diseases in the region.

The institute's Adaptive Technology Center, or ATC, is a key example of this mission at work and serves as a dedicated space for individuals, families, and students to explore specialized devices to assist with daily life. Currently the center features home automation through devices controlled through voice and eye gaze technologies, a wheelchair simulator, and gaming stations. Here, individuals can test the tech solutions that may work best for them as their disease progresses, mitigating the risk of a costly purchase that may not fit their needs.

A gift to the Steve Gleason Institute for Neuroscience Fund supports the ongoing development of life-changing programs and educational opportunities.
